Vintage Collector's Plate, Vernon Kilns. This plate measures 10 ½" in diameter and is decorated in burgundy on white transfer print -- crisp. This is a classic, old Salem, Mass. decorative plate from Vernon Kilns. Very brief background on Vernon Kilns: According to Bill Stern (2001), Vernon Kilns (Los Angeles) was one of the well-known "Big Five" of the Southern California Pottery group (p. 42, California Pottery: From Missions to Modernism). Vernon Kilns closed its doors in the early 1950s. This plate depicts a variety of traditional and historic sites and images from Massachusetts’ history (please see photos). They include: Harbor at Marblehead; Abbot Hall Spirit of '76; Old Balch House built in 1638, Beverly; Old Witch House, Salem; Colonial Doorway; House of Seven Gables; Old Salem Clipper; and The Gloucester Fisherman. The plate is in good vintage condition showing very minor signs of use with no chips, cracks, or restorations. The transfer print is sharp and crisp and clear. The back of the plate is inscribed in burgundy underglaze with the wording: Daniel Low & Co., Treasure House of Gifts, Salem, Mass. by Vernon Kilns, U.S.A.

Vintage Presidential Gallery Plate #2, Vernon Kilns. 10 1/2 inches in diameter. Vernon produced commemorative souvenir plates from 1936 until it was acquired by Metlox in 1958. Unfortunately Metlox did not continue the plate division. This red transfer print on the ultra shape depicts the pantheon of American presidents from Washington to Eisenhower (who was still in office at the time). This hard-to-find plate was produced to update the previously issued Presidential Gallery #1 plate which was issued during the Truman administration. It's in good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Additional information on the back and fully marked.

Dinner Plate, Vernon Kilns, May Flower. This plate measures 9 1/4" in diameter. All hand painted, it has a beautiful embossed edge and vivid bright flowers decorating the interior. The plates are all in good vintage condition. A very few signs of minor cutlery usage is mentioned purely for accuracy as expected of pieces of this vintage. They are all marked "Vernon Kilns Hand Painted Under Glaze May Flower Calif. Made in U.S.A."

Bowl, Vernon Kilns, May Flower. This bowl measures 7 1/2" from handle to handle. All hand painted, there is a beautiful embossed edge and vivid bright flowers decorating the interior. Three of these are in very good vintage condition. One of the others has a little paint flake on one edge and the other has a tiny fleabite on the underside of its edge. These two are reduced by half. They are all marked "Vernon Kilns Hand Painted Under Glaze May Flower Calif. Made in U.S.A."

Cup and Saucer, Vernon Kilns, May Flower. This vintage cup and saucer is 2 1/2" tall and the saucer is 6" in diameter. All hand painted, the saucer is beautifully embossed around the edge and vivid bright flowers decorate both the cup and saucer. Two sets are in very nice vintage condition. The third set has a tiny fleabite on the back of the saucer, and the fourth saucer has a 1/2" crack. The one with the crack will be reduced to half price. They are all marked "Under Glaze Hand Painted Vernonware, May Flower Calif. U.S.A.".

Salad Plate, Vernon Kilns, May Flower. This plate measures 7 1/2" in diameter. All hand painted, it has a beautiful embossed edge and vivid bright flowers decorating the interior. One plate has a little chip and fleabite on the back edge of the plate (see last picture), and it is reduced to $3.00. The rest are in gently used condition; two with surface abrasions due to age. They have weathered time well, showing very little signs of use chips, cracks, or crazing. They are all marked "Vernon Kilns Hand Painted Under Glaze May Flower Calif. Made in U.S.A."
