Soapstone Plate, Handcrafted in Kenya. This 8 1/4" hand-carved plate from Kenya (East Africa) is etched with traditional images; two elephants under a tree. The plate is carved from a light colored stone. It is stained with natural dyes and the designs are carved through the stain showing the light colored stone. This is an example of the kinds of crafts that are made to sell in the markets and for exports. It is a one-of-a-kind item due to each plate being individually made, thus no two are alike. "FOR ORNAMENTAL USE ONLY". There is a paint knick on one edge of the plate. It is signed by the artist (see photos) and has a "Made in Kenya" label on the back.
